After A 24-Year Hiatus, Hon Aniagboso Makes History As Amichi Returns To Nnewi South Leadership Seat
Following the appointment of Hon. Ikenna Aniagboso as Nnewi South LGA transition committee chairman by the executive governor of Anambra State Prof Chukwuma Soludo, an over two decades jinx was broken.
The former senior special assistant to the immediate past governor of Anambra state Chief Willie Obiano by this appointment, has become the only ‘Onye Amichi’ to occupy the leadership seat of the local government since 1997/1998 after the late Ichie Custom, Late Chief Cyprain Umeanokwuru (ISIENYI).
It’s been a long wait for Ndi Amichi, having seen Ukpor, Ezinifite and Akwaihedi share the position in the last two decades, with Ukpor holding sway majority of the times.
The news of Hon Aniagboso’s appointment filtered in yesterday amidst cheers and jubilation among APGA party faithfuls and Ndi Amichi in general.
Stakeholders are of the opinion that this opportunity should be utilized to ensure Amichi gets better for it. Speaking to our correspondent on the development, Hon. Mrs Flora Ezeoke, an APGA stakeholder and former governor’s aide in the last administration said; “This is a round peg in a round hole. The incoming Mayor is perfect for the job, having accomplished and distinguished himself in all previous political positions held so far. I trust in his capacity to deliver. His Excellence Mr Governor has done most noble in giving our Local Government a breath of fresh air in Hon. Ikenna Aniagboso. “
Recall that Amichi has been immersed in deep political crisis lately, leading to the cancelation of a scheduled PG election, following a court order.
AMICHI MAGAZINE understands that the swearing-in of the newly appointed TC chairmen for 21 local governments of the state will be held soon.
