AMICHI: Issue Certificate Of Recognition To Evang Emeka Ezekiel As PG Of Amichi Community – Chief Eric Ume-Ezeoke

Following the directives of Governor Soludo, Amichi community conducted primary election on July 19th, 2022 and elected Evang Emeka Ezekiel as the President General of Amichi.

On July 14th, 2022, Hon Tonycollins Nwabunwanne (Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Anambra State) invited some Amichi stakeholders to his office at Awka concerning Amichi Development Union election.

After much dialogue and discussion, Hon Tonycollins mandated Okpala Descendant Union to go and conduct an election and submit to his office names of those that were elected.

We should recall that in 2016, Amichi caretaker committee (ACC) under the chairmanship of Sir Emmanuel Okafor issued terms and reference on how each quarter will elect President to govern the good people of Amichi for four years.

Amichi community is comprised of four quarters namely, Okpala, Ezeudene, Afube and Ebenassa quarters.

With advent of caretaker committee terms and reference, it was agreed that Ebenassa quarter will be the first to elect President for Amichi community and after Ebenassa quarter, Okpala quarter will follow.

In 2017, Mr Dan Ugwumba from Ebenassa quarter became the first elected President of Amichi community after caretaker era. Mr Dan Ugwumba was elected by Ebenassa quarter and presented to Amichi community at Noble Club Hall field for affirmation. All the Executives that worked with Mr Dan Ugwumba were elected by there quarters and presented to ndi Amichi for affirmation at Noble Club Hall field. Therefore, Mr Dan Ugwumba was used as a pacesetter to the rest of the quarters in Amichi. The tenure of Mr Dan Ugwumba ended in 2021.

Amichi Development Union under the President of Mr Dan Ugwumba instituted ADU electoral committee. ADU electoral committee under the chairmanship of Engr Emma Agu mandated Okpala quarter to elect President for ndi Okpala. All the quarters in Amichi were assigned elective positions and mandated to conduct elections and present them to Amichi for affirmation.

On December of 2020, Okpala quarter conducted first primary election through secret balloting at Eziama Hall presided by the President General of Okpala Descendant Union. Evang Emeka Ezekiel defeated Mr Cletus Udebuani. Mr Cletus Udebuani congratulated Evang Emeka Ezekiel and promised to work with him.

Later, the primary election of ndi Okpala quarter was cancelled because one faction of Ebenator Okpala village Amichi wrote a petition to the office of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs that they were not included during the primary election. For the interest of peace, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Hon Greg Obi called for the rerun of Okpala Descendant Union primary election.

Okpala quarter primary election was rerun in 2021 between Evang Emeka Ezekiel and Mr Cletus Udebuani Igbokwe under the chairmanship of Okpala Descendant Union President General through option A4 as stipulated by the Anambra State Government. Evang Emeka Ezekiel defeated Mr Cletus Udebuani Igbokwe at Amichi Town Hall. Mr Cletus Udebuani Igbokwe refused to accept defeat and walked out of the election hall. The President General Okpala Descendant Union Sir Bernard Afoka declared Evang Emeka Ezekiel winner and presented him to ndi Amichi for affirmation.

On the day of affirmation by ndi Amichi at Amichi Town Hall, Government representatives led by Hon Gerald Akaeze came with his team to supervise what Amichi community is doing.

The affirmation process by ndi Amichi was not successful as ADU electoral committee headed by Engr Emma Agu insisted on thwarting the primary election conducted by ndi Okpala. Government representatives led by Hon Gerald Akaeze advised ndi Amichi to adhere to the procedures stipulated by Amichi caretaker committee which ushered in Mr Dan Ugwumba as first President General after caretaker era. In other to avoid bloodshed and destruction of properties at Amichi Hall that day, Hon Gerlad Akaeze went with the election results conducted by all the quarters in Amichi community.

In the year 2021, the office of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Hon Greg Obi invited successful candidates of all the quarters led by the President elect of ADU to come and collect certificate of recognition from his office.

At this point, the remaining three quarters in Amichi led by Mr Dan Ugwumba and Mr Cletus Udebuani Igbokwe ran to Chief Chidi Anyaegbu (Chisco) and pleaded him to call the Governor to cease from issuing certificate of recognition to Evang Emeka Ezekiel. Because of the relationship Governor Willie Obiano had with Chisco, Governor Obiano withheld the certificate which kept Amichi without leaders till he vacated his office.

Now, Governor Soludo listed Amichi among the towns in Anambra State that is having leadership crisis. Governor Soludo mandated his Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Hon Tonycollins Nwabunwanne to conduct election to ndi Amichi. There was no specific position Governor Soludo mandated Hon Tonycollins Nwabunwanne to conduct to ndi Amichi. Governor Soludo was specific on his mandate.

Hon Tonycollins Nwabunwanne invited ndi Amichi to his office for dialogue and way forward. The President of Okpala Descendant Union duly represented by his Vice President Nze Obijiofor Ume-Ezeoke went to meet with the Commissioner amidst other quarter representatives.

Hon Tonycollins Nwabunwanne after carefully listened to what everyone said during the meeting at his office, mandated ndi Okpala to conduct another primary election and submit to his office on Wednesday 20th July, 2022 with names of successful candidates.

Sequel to that, Okpala Descendant Union President General Sir Bernard Afoka through his Vice President Nze Obijiofor Ume-Ezeoke authorized another primary election at Awka on July 19th,2022 by 12pm.

Election circular was distributed to all the villages in Okpala quarter. Here are the names of villages in Okpala quarter:

  1. Obiagu.
  2. Ebenator Okpala.
  3. Obiofia.
  4. Ihuachasi.
  5. Eziama.

All the Presidents of these village acknowledged that they received election circular distributed by the President General of Okpala Descendant Union.

In other for the Government to be aware of Okpala quarter primary election, Anambra State Government mandated Okpala quarter to pay a token of One hundred thousand naira(#100,000) which Okpala quarter paid. All the requirements from Anambra State Government were met and they approved Okpala quarter primary election on July 19th,2022 at Jack Miral Hotel hall Awka.

On July 19th,2022, Okpala Descendant Union conducted for the third(3rd) time another primary election as mandated by Anambra State Government. The primary election is between Evang Emeka Ezekiel and Mr Cletus Udebuani Igbokwe.

All the villages in Okpala quarter(Obiagu, Obiofia, Ebenator Okpala and Ihuachasi) assembled at Jack Miral Hotel Hall for the election except Eziama who voluntarily boycotted the election. The names of the delegates were submitted to President General of Okpala Descendant Union through his Vice President and his Executives.

Okpala Descendant Union has 100 man delegates and is shared as follows:

  1. Obiagu: 20 delegates.
  2. Obiofia:.15 delegates
  3. Ihuachasi: 10 delegates.
  4. Ebenator Okpala: 15 delegates.
  5. Eziama: 40 delegates.

Any village in Okpala quarter that is splitted like Obiagu and Ebenator Okpala, there delegates were shared among themselves for peaceful coexistence.

The Primary election was conducted between Evang Emeka Ezekiel and Mr Cletus Udebuani who voluntarily was absent on July 19th,2022 at Jack Miral Hotel hall Awka. Evang Emeka Ezekiel defeated Mr Cletus Udebuani Igbokwe with total of 53 votes. It simply means that Evang Emeka Ezekiel have 53 votes while Mr Cletus Udebuani Igbokwe have 47 votes. Based on that, Evang Emeka Ezekiel was declared winner by Okpala Descendant Union President General ably represented and authorized by his Vice President Nze Obijiofor Ume-Ezeoke. Okpala quarter primary election came to an end about 3:45pm.

On this note, Okpala Descendant Union is urging His Excellency Prof Soludo to please issue certificate of recognition to Evang Emeka Ezekiel who won Amichi election.

In Amichi community, Amichi community doesn’t elect there President General. President General are elected per quarter’s turn. It is the turn of ndi Okpala to elect President General for ndi Amichi and Okpala quarter has elected Evang Emeka Ezekiel in consonance with caretaker committee terms and reference. Anything devoid of giving Evang Emeka Ezekiel certificate of recognition will ignite more crisis and confusion in Amichi community.

Hon Tonycollins Nwabunwanne calling for another election on July 23rd, 2022 will cause more harm than good in Amichi community. Okpala quarter have followed the order of Governor Soludo. Hon Tonycollins Nwabunwanne should not tear Amichi apart because of ransom Oke Iyi gave to him.

We are equally pleading with Mr Cletus Udebuani Igbokwe to allow peace reign in Amichi community. Evang Emeka Ezekiel has defeated him three times. The notion that Eziama person must be President General of Amichi is undemocratic and archaic. It is called election because people contest for the office. Election is not selection. Since you have failed three times, swallow your ego and allow the winner to govern Amichi well.

Lastly, let Hon Tonycollins Nwabunwanne allowed Governor Soludo directives prevail.
