Oba/Nnewi/Amichi/Uga/Okigwe Road To Be Completed Soon – Hon. Azubogu

House of Representatives member representing Nnewi South / Nnewi North / Ekwusigo federal constituency, Hon. Chris Azubogu, has announced that the Oba-Nnewi-Amichi-Unubi-Uga-Okigwe federal highway shall be completed soon.

In a statement by the lawmaker on his official Facebook page, Hon. Azubogu popularly known as “Mr Project” said:

“I wish to bring to the notice of our people that Federal Government has awarded the project for the completion of above road.

This road is one of the many projects that has been giving me sleepless nights especially whenever I remember what our people from Ekwulumili, Unubi, Ezinifite-Aguata, Uga and Imo State Communities pass through due to this portion of bad road.

My question has been: How can our projected Industrial Park situated long that axis (Unubi-Akwaihedi-Uga) function without this ever important road?

You may recall that I have been on this project and late last year(2019), Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the award of Contract for the project on 11th September, 2019. But even at that, I have continued to follow it up to make sure that administrative bottlenecks won’t keep the project only on papers or files.

To the glory of God, after my last meeting with the Honourable Minister for Works and administrative heads within the Ministry, I can authoritatively say that it has been awarded and I appreciate FEC and all those that contributed to this in one way or the other.
I have always believed that projects like this needs Legislative/Executive engagement and i am happy that we are at this point.

Part of the award letter read:

“I am pleased to inform you that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at its meeting held on Wednesday, 11th September, 2019, approved the award of Contract for the Rehabilitation of Outstanding Sectors of Oba-Nnewi-Arondizuogu-Okigwe Road in Anambra/Imo States Contract No.6628 in favour of your company (Messrs IIC Construction Company Limited/WiZ China Worldwide Engineering Limited) in the sum of N12,752,627,088.89( Twelve Billion, Seven Hundred and Fifty-two million, six hundred and Twenty-seven thousand, Eight-eight Naira, Eighty-nine kobo) inclusive of all taxes, with a completion period of Eighteen (18) months…”

The struggle that I am pushing currently is to make sure that Contractor move to the site and I have started reaching all the parties to that.

I wish to continue to plead with our people and all the road users of this ever important road who has endured over the years due to failed portion of the road. Thanks for your patience.

During my campaign in 2019, people of Ekwulumili and Unubi always reminded me of the road, some even erroneously said even before me, that I deliberately end the Rehabilitation after Amichi and abandoned Unubi and Ekwulumili.
Do you blame them? I told myself that these people elected me for results and NOT excuse. I reminded myself that these people don’t care what i am going through in Abuja to get projects for them, that what they want are RESULTS and i have to get the results period!

I have been assuring them that I will continue to strive to see that Federal Government complete the project which will extend to Aguata, Orumba South and Imo State.

If we Bridge Infrastructural Gap, businesses will grow and drive job creation.

Meanwhile, I will be having a very important Zoom Meeting on the Industrial Park Project with critical stakeholders on Monday.

The Industrial Park is projected to produce 25,000 direct jobs and over 100,000 indirect jobs.”
